Schools & Teaching
I’m a qualified teacher, trained through the Harris Federation and Goldsmiths, University of London. Over the years I’ve taught in a wide range of settings — from mainstream schools in the UK, to private international schools in Mexico City, to alternative provision (PRU) in the UK. Alongside my studio work, I eventually opened my own art school in Mexico, which became one of the most meaningful parts of my teaching career.
My path into teaching began long before I stepped into a classroom. I completed a Gallery Education Internship at Orleans House Gallery, worked as a Learning Assistant at Peckham Platform, and led workshops across London, from Brockley Arts Festival to the Affordable Art Fair’s education space. I also worked as an Artist in Residence at a primary school in Wales as part of the Arts in Action programme, which cemented my love for creative education.
In Mexico, I taught art with a private school throughout the pandemic, adapting everything for online learning. What began as lessons for one school quickly grew into teaching children in many different countries. I created hands-on virtual workshops, camp-in-a-box kits, and interactive sessions that helped my students stay connected and creative during such an uncertain time.
I’ve also run after-school clubs in Peckham and later built a full extracurricular programme at my studio in Mexico City, a programme that grew so popular that some students travelled up to an hour to attend. Each session had its own focus: art history, textiles, collage, printmaking, drawing, painting, and a maker space for construction and sculpture. End-of-term art shows became a favourite tradition, giving children a chance to celebrate their work with their families and the wider community.
Collaboration has always been at the heart of my teaching. I love involving visiting artists, working on collective projects, and reaching out to the artists we study. My students have exchanged messages with Peter Anton while building giant food sculptures, and more recently the artist duo CHIAOZZA reached out after seeing our studio projects online, congratulating the children on their creativity and hard work. Moments like these remind me how impactful and connected art education can be.
